Amazon boycotts sale of Beyoncé's new album

The online shopping portal Amazon.com has been on the warpath against the latest album by Beyoncé, which the artist published by surprise on December 13, and that she launched in pre-sale exclusively through the iTunes platform during its first week in digital format. Last week, when distribution to all sales channels was opened, Amazon announced that it will not keep stock of the physical version on CD for direct sale of the pop singer's self-titled album, the album can be found on its website but for sale through its distributors.

Amazon did not perform no official statement on this decision, although for the American media it was already classified as a boycott. It turned out that the reason for this decision was the move by Columbia Records, not to allow Amazon the opportunity to offer the album for pre-sale. Columbia for this reason did not agree to promote the album on Amazon, which has meant that the digital download only appears on Amazon if it is searched for and that it is not located on the covers, nor does it appear as suggested in other articles.

Amazon hasn't been the only major retailer to boycott the sale of Beyoncé's CDs. The American chain of Supermarkets Target Nor has it released the new album because, justifying that when an album is released first in digital format rather than physically, it has a negative impact on demand in stores.
