8th Edition of ImagineIndia in Madrid and Barcelona

97 feature films from 20 countries are the presentation letter of the Eighth Edition of ImagineIndia Film Festival which will take place from May 20 to 30 in Madrid and the first week of June in Barcelona. The editions in which a dozen films were shown are now far away and the festival is progressing steadily showing a greater number of feature films with each new edition.

India remains the central body of the festival, with around 40 films in its 9 sections.

The stars of the Indian Section are the Shaji Karun retrospective, the lesser known films of Satyajit Ray, the first retrospective in Europe of the Karnataka director, Girish Kasaravalli, the films of the one who shared coffees with Ray, Ghatak or Mrinal Sen, the Bengali Cover Sinha. Four retrospectives that fill this section with content and packaging.

Confirm the good moment of Indian independent cinema with a powerful Competitive Section with directors of the level of Anurag Kashyap, Girish Kasaravalli, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Shyam Benegal, Pryas Gupta. Directors, some already known at the festival, and others who are arriving for the first time.

The Asian Section grows to almost 40 feature films, with Retrospectives of Eduard Yang, Kon Ichikawa, Won Kar Wai.

The Arab Section increases to 12 films from the 3 of the last edition.

As every year the festival has a theme as a common thread, being in this eighth edition: “The world of gypsies in the cinema”. 10 - 12 films from India, USA, Hungary, Serbia, France will give content to the section without resorting to the already widely viewed Kusturica or Gatlif.

The festival has increased the number of Awards in the Asian Section to 5, thus equaling those in the Indian Section. They are for Best Director, Film, Actor, Actress, Music, with a total of 10 GOLDEN CHAKRA awards given by the festival.

The Festival Jury is made up of great film personalities such as:

Maria de Medeiros, Chus Gutiérrez, Guillermo Fesser, Isaki Lacuesta, Jordi Dauder, Kira Miró,

Eduardo Chapero Jackson, Lucía Hoyos and Chema Rodríguez.

If in Madrid ImagineIndia will take over the dates from May 20 to 30, 2009, and in Barcelona it will do so in the first week of June 2009. For this replica of the Festival in Barcelona, ​​the collaboration with Casa Asia and its audiovisual coordinators, CINE, has been fundamental. ASIA.

11 intense days of cinema will culminate in the Palafox cinema with the Closing Ceremony, and the delivery of the GOLDEN CHAKRA Award to the winning films.

Finally, the festival has inaugurated an exciting experience with the creation for the first time in Spanish of a channel related to peripheral cultures: IMAGINEINDIA TV. This instrument will serve at the same time to make a greater coverage during the celebration of the same and it will be possible to see the daily events of the festival ON LINE.
