Tras las nominaciones que se han dado a conocer para los Satellite Awards, «Twelve Years a Slave» es la gran favorita con hasta diez nominaciones, incluidas las de mejor película y mejor dirección.
Las otras dos grandes favoritas para estos premios son «American Hustle«, que ha conseguido nominación en las cuatro categorías interpretativas y «Gravity«, que opta sobretodo a premios técnicos, ambas reciben candidaturas en las categorías de mejor película y mejor director.
Entre las ausencias, destacar que películas como «Her» o «Nebraska» no optan a los premios principales de película y dirección y que no aparecen entre los premios interpretativos algunos intérpretes que cabía esperar como Kate Winslet, Joaquin Phoenix, Octavia Spencer, Oscar Isaac o Jonah Hill.
