Woody Allen to open Cannes 2016

Woody Allen in cannes

Last week we knew the official poster for the 69th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, and today we know the title of the film that is going to open this famous film competition. The choice has fallen on “Café Society”, Woody Allen's latest film, starring Kristen Stewart, Jesse Eisenberg, Steve Carell, and Blake Lively.

It is not the first time that the New York filmmaker opens this festival film. In 2002 he did it with "A final made in Hollywood", and in 2011 with "Midnight in Paris", with which he won the Oscar for best original screenplay. The broadcast of this film in Cannes marks the fourteenth time that Woody Allen has shown his work there, out of competition. The first time was in 1979 with "Manhattan".

“Café Society” will be screened at the famous Grand Théâtre Lumière in the Palais des Festivals, within the “Out of Competition” section. The tape is set In the Hollywood of the 30s, and its protagonist is a young man whose desire is to open a gap in interpretation. On that path and while trying to understand the peculiar society that surrounds him, he will find love.

This 69th edition of the International Cannes Film Festival, will have a jury chaired by George Miller, and will take place inbetween the 11th to the 22nd of May. The list of films to be screened will be made public on April 14.

Besides "Café Society", Woody Allen has other pending projects. Since 1982, he has been releasing films at the rate of one each year. Along with his activity for the big screen, the filmmaker is preparing a series for Amazon, set in the sixties, of six chapters of half an hour each, starring Miley Cyrus. The title of this work is not yet known, but it will be released during this year 2016.
