Here we have the list with the 5 best films seen from ActualidadCine at the Sitges Film Festival.
A list that partly coincides with the best films according to the jury, in a year that the official awards of the contest have not been questioned by the public as in recent years.
5. 'Tangerine' by Sean Baker
Although the film has little or nothing to do with the fantasy genre, and even less with horror, we must highlight the Sean Baker's new film 'Tangerine'. A breath of fresh air this comedy-toned film about transsexual prostitution on the streets of Los Angeles with great acting and frenzied directing.
4. 'The Witch' by Robert Eggers
Surprisingly too we have to include in this Top Five the opening tape of this edition of the contest. In recent years, the opening films of the Sitges Festival were among the least liked, but this year 'The Witch', a film with an excellent direction and a very elaborate atmosphere, is among the best of the recently finished edition of the Catalan contest.
3. 'The Invitation' by Karyn Kusama
Little to say about this film that the jury of the contest did not already say when awarding it the award for best film. 'The Invitation 'works the rhythm of all the footage excellently to give us an explosive ending.
2. 'The Final Girls' by Todd Strauss-Schulson
Another award-winning film that deserves to be among the best of this edition of the Sitges Festival is 'The Final Girls', a film that knows how to laugh at the genre with a more intelligent humor than it may seem at first and with a great script. All this is worth the Special Jury Prize and the one for best screenplay.
1. Jeremy Saulnier's 'Green Room'
It has probably also been close to winning a prize, but although in the end the 48th edition of the Sitges Festival has gone empty, Jeremy Saulnier's new work deserves to be among the best of this year. After the excellent 'Blue Ruin', the director is confirmed as one of the great promises of the direction with 'Green Room'.
