Working both as a director as well as a screenwriter, Tom McCarthy presented in Madrid The Visitor, his latest film.

The film is an independent production that features Richard Jenkins as a protagonist, an actor whom we have already seen in Two meters underground y Burn after reading. The film is based on the theme of immigration, and tells the story of Walter, who is a stagnant and absent-minded university professor. The problem is found when he returns to his apartment in New York, and realizes that he has Tarek, a young Syrian, and his girlfriend Zainad, a Senegalese, living in it illegally, who were victims of a real estate scam. Between the three of them, a relationship of coexistence and friendship begins to develop, almost forced, until one day Tarek is captured by immigration, a situation that can be seen in its entirety, thus understanding the type of treatment that immigrants receive in North America. .

McCarthy, despite his Oscar nominations, considered them as mere business, and was proud of his status as an independent director, a situation that gives him greater freedom than working for the big Holywood studios. And he also spoke about the situation in his country, regarding the work time it took him to complete this project. And it is that only after 5 years could he finish it, both because he had had various job offers as an actor, as well as in relation to the internal situations of his country, which imbued him with constant "emotional" conflicts, about the way in which he they can appreciate certain aspects of reality.
