Tom Hanks embraces the communist cause: the actor will play the Dean read, the singer called the 'Red Elvis', who chose to live under the communist regime of the GDR (German Democratic Republic), shocked by the death of the Chilean Salvador Allende.

The film will be called "Comrad Rockstar" and Hanks plans to shoot it in 2008. The "Castaway" actor bought the rights from Read's widow, Renate Blume.

The American singer was hailed in Communist Germany for being the "anti-capitalist antithesis" of Elvis Presley. He died when he was 48 years old, on June 17, 1986, at his home in the outskirts of Berlin, believed to be by suicide.
