Our joy in a well. The North American Academy is big for us and finally The orphanage will not be nominated to take the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film since it has not managed to pass the first selection cut that leaves only nine titles to the applicants in this category, from which the five nominees who will compete for the statuette will be chosen.
The nine titles that have passed the cut are:
1.- The Counterfeitersby Stefan Ruzowitzky (Austria)
2.- The Year My Parents Went on Vacationby Cao Hamburger (Brazil)
3.- Days of Darknessby Denys Arcand (Canada)
4.- Beaufortby Joseph Cedar (Israel)
5.- The sconosciuta ('The Unknown Woman'), by Giuseppe Tornatore (Italy)
6.- Mongolianby Sergei Bodrov (Kazakhstan)
7.- catynby Andrzej Wajda (Poland)
8.- 12by Nikita Mikhalkov (Russia)
9.- The Trapby Srdan Golubovic (Serbia)
A pity that the Spanish film has not reached the nominations, but we must not forget the success that the film has had, collecting in the United States more than 1 million dollars having released in only 70 rooms.
