The warriors, serial adaptation

The warriors

The Warriors was a movie that didn't do very well at the box office. It was also surrounded by controversy because it allegedly incited violence. However, over the years, this first film directed by Walter Hill, has become a cult film. For fans it will be good news to know that it will possibly become a television series.

Although the remake was circulated by different hands, it has been standing still for several years. The last one to get the project back was Tony Scott. Obviously, after his death, another team had to be found for him. It was decided that Sol Yurick's novel would be adapted for television.

As executive producers they have hired the brothers Joey Anthony Russo, producers of 'Happy Endings' or 'Community', and the screenwriter Frank Baldwin ('The Godmother'). Luckily there will also be the one who was the producer of the original film, Lawrence Gordon. They intend to package the series into several hour-long chapters, in theory, with a single season.

For those who do not know very well what The Warriors is about, I leave the argument here:

Ismael, the charismatic leader of the Thrones of Delancey, the most powerful youth band in New York, calls a meeting of representatives of all the bands in the city, in a park in the Bronx.

The unusual appointment is attended by seven members of the Coney Island Dominators (Papa Arnold, Hector, Lunkface, Dewey, Bimbo, El Peque and Hinton). Ismael proposes a very ambitious (and disturbing) idea: if all the street gangs in New York united, they would be an army larger than the Police and the Mafia and could dominate the city ...

But the meeting goes wrong, the tensions are excessive and violence erupts ... the truce is broken, and on that long and hot night of July 4, the Family (the Dominators) have to return to their territory, south of Brooklyn, crossing the city and crossing the territories of other hostile gangs ...
