casablanca-1

On the site Premiere, I have found the list of the ten best films of all history, chosen by a select North American jury. And I must say that it is quite good. Next, the note.

«In 1997, the American Film Institute had announced which, in its opinion, were the 100 best films in the history of American cinematography. 10 years later, the same institute decided to review the list and things changed a lot.

In the first place it remained Citizen Kane of the great Orson Welles released in 1941 which curiously did not win the Oscar for best picture in that year.

In the number two position it was located The Godfather (1972), by Francis Ford Coppola, which rose a notch from the 1997 list and did win the best picture award at the Oscars. Marlon Brando and Al Pacino were the protagonists of this story about the mafia.

To third place then the mythical Casablanca, also an Oscar winner in 1942, directed by Michael Curtiz and co-starring Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman.

Wizard of Oz

From position 24 to fourth rose wild bull (1980) by Martin Scorsese who did not give an Oscar to its director or reach the Oscar for best picture but did give the precious statuette to its protagonist, the impeccable Robert De Niro.
It was in position number 10 and now the musical appears in fifth Singing under the rain (1952), which did not win any Oscars but consolidated its actor and co-director Gene Kelly.

Two places to sixth fell Gone With the Wind (1939) directed by Victor Fleming and starring Clark Gable and Vivien Leigh. This film won 8 Oscars including the one for best picture.

Also two posts fell Lawrence of Arabia (1962), which also swept the Oscars and had the fantastic Peter O`Toole at the head of the cast, accompanied by Alec Guinness, Omar Sharif and Anthony Quinn.

A post uploaded drama about the Jewish holocaust Shindler's List (1993) by Steven Spilberg, also an Oscar winner and starring the superb Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley and Ralph Fiennes.

Vertigo (1958) by Alfred Hitchcock rose from position 61 to ninth being the highest gain.

Finally, in tenth place is It Wizard of Oz (1939) directed by Victor Fleming and starring Judy Garland. "
