The Shins - Port Of Morrow

Whether it was strategy or not, what is certain is that this hiatus in the career of the group of James mercer has been developed satisfactorily. Group that began its journey, under the label the shins, with the brilliance of a perfect debut, we mean to Oh, Inverted World (2001) where that old sixties pop sounded so current and where majestic melodies that would accompany his next works were already beginning to be glimpsed.

En Chutes Too Narrow (2003) refined their formula and already enjoyed considerable popularity, beating the sales record on their record label. sub pop, and after a short parenthesis they returned renewed with Winning the Night Away (2007) where its sound expands in multiple directions not previously traveled.

But the internal problems in the band were already latent and a break from the band was announced when in fact it had completely disintegrated, Mercer along with Danger Mouse released a pop album much more experimental than what we were used to, which ultimately served as the hinge for this fifth album of the band, and only with Mercer as a vestige of the original line-up.

Port of morrow (2012) seems a perfect synthesis of the Shins formula. They do not hesitate to start with heavy artillery in the experimental "A Riffle's Spiral" and do not hesitate to intersperse sumptuous ballads along the way giving a varied and balanced ensemble. And they embroider it again when they bet on catchy songs like the presentation single "Simple Song" with Mercer displaying his vocal power in an unforgettable chorus, or the rhythms "No Way Down" and "Bait And Switch".
