The most recognized and influential publication of world cinema, Cahiers du Cinema, has changed owners dfter several decades of belonging to the same publishing group, being bought by the Phaidon firm.
The French magazine Cahiers du cinema promoted the careers of world cinema greats such as François Truffaut and Jean-Luc Godard, and it marked a before and after in the way of perceiving cinema. It was founded in 1951 by the critic and theorist Andre Bazin, who promoted in his magazine the so-called "auteur cinema", a much more personal and intimate cinema, which relied on the subjective vision of a director.
The magazine came out monthly and little by little it was an obligatory stop for all those who wanted to know about the "Nouvelle Vague" French. There, Truffaut, Godard and so many others, They vindicated entertainment cinema, especially Hollywood noir, which at that time was bastardized by critics.
Liz Thompson, Phaidon Executive, already said that within the publishing house they plan to expand the magazine, publishing a English version of the magazine. And Richard Schlagman, editor de Phaidon, stated: "I'm sure 'Cahiers' can become relevant these days and can speak to a new generation of moviegoers."
