The Clash returns to help the prisoners

Although Joe Strummer is gone, and the return is only momentary, one of the best bands of all time, The Clash, is found again in a recording studio to help the prison population.

Guitarist Mick Jones and drummer Topper Headon teamed up once again, this time to renew the political and social commitment that they have maintained since the time of The Clash. Billy Bragg, the founding musician of an NGO that encourages the rehabilitation of prisoners through music, invited Jones and Headon to re-record the song Jail Guitar Doors.

The relationship between Jones and the NGO had already existed for a long time, since the guitarist collaborated permanently with the organization, performing donations and participating in talks with the same prisoners. In a statement, Jones stated that the inmates confessed to him “how much this program was helping them to change their lives once they got out of prison«, And added that "It was really moving to think that we had helped, even if it was just a little."

For its part, Headon expressed "What is really beautiful" what it is to see this initiative work, and he recalled the importance of being able to access a guitar, when he himself was in prison for a time.

From the NGO, Bragg reflected on the true meaning that prison would have to have, saying that “It has to involve a lot more than just locking people up. We want people to be able to look ahead and reconnect with the outside world, and my hunch was that playing an instrument could help ”, He explained.

Excellent initiative to try destigmatize inmates, and advance social reintegration of any person who is or was imprisoned in a prison.
