"Symbolic Visions, a look at Daniel Johnston's universe" is the name given to the exhibition on the magical creative universe of Daniel johnston which will take place from next Thursday, April 19 in The House On Madrid.
Curated by Íñigo Munster, Estela Aparisi and Jeff Tartakov (a private collector who has donated Jonston's work that he has collected over the last decades), the exhibition will be the bigger and more ambitious of how many have been carried out around the world to date on the American singer and cartoonist.
The scenography design is the responsibility of the musician and draftsman. Olaf Ladousse and, broadly speaking, the exhibition will contain 72 original drawings (1978 - 2004 approx.), a canvas that will broadly explain all the symbols of Daniel Johnston's drawings (by La Camorra), a screen with extracts from several of his notepads (210 pages of original drawings), a showcase with flyers of fictional concerts, newspaper clippings, Daniel's first appearances in the press, listening to the original cassettes on tape recorders, a self-produced documentary with opinions of illustrators, journalists and Spanish musicians that has an introduction to the drawings of Jeff Tartakov, the collector who gave us the work.
In addition, parallel to the exhibition will take place three concerts Also at La Casa Encendida: Kathy Mc Carty (Sunday, May 6), Jad Fair (Half Japanese) with Norman Blake (Teenage Fanclub) (Sunday, May 13) and Mary Lou Lord (Sunday).
