Sitges 2015: Review of 'The Final Girls'

Todd Strauss-Schulson's feature film debut 'The Final Girls' has been one of the great winners of the Sitges Festival.

The film has been lifted from the Catalan competition on Special Jury Prize and Best Screenplay Award and we bet that it was very close to taking over the audience, because 'The Final Girls' has undoubtedly been one of the films that the public who have come to Sitges this year have liked the most.

The Final Girls

To talk about 'The Final Girls' one must undoubtedly refer to the reference to another film that caused a sensation very recently, 'Cabin in the Woods', and it is that they are two films that to refresh the genre have come to a meta-cinematic history. These two films have gone far beyond what was once the 'Scream' saga, which at heart was nothing more than a parody of the horror films of decades ago.

However 'The Final Girls' doesn't give up on being an unpretentious comedy and to create jokes with the clichés of the genre, with a great script that ends with a hook to a possible sequel within the film, but which we hope will come if it maintains the level of this film.

Rating: 8 / 10
