Sitges 2015: Criticism of 'High-Rise'

High-Rise

Bold proposal that of Ben Wheatley, but adaptation of JG Ballard's novel of the same name 'High Rise' does not convey the same as the novel.

Failed proposal by this British director who attends the Sitges Festival with everything he shoots and that increasingly divides the opinion of both the critics and the public.

Already his first three films, 'Down Terrace', 'Kill List' and 'Turistas' ('Sightseers'), made us all notice this director who aimed to be loved and hated alike, something that It was confirmed two years ago with the film 'A Field in England', which won awards such as the Special Jury Prize at the Karlovy Vary Festival.

This year he has gone a little further by daring with the adaptation of a classic of the dystopian genre such as 'Skyscraper' ('High-Rise') by JG Ballard, and not doing it very well.

It is true that the novel itself is chaotic, but which Ben wheatley I carry all the prominence in a character, that of Tom Hiddleston, makes the argument even less clear, and it is that in the original novel this load is carried by three characters and even the outcome of the story is narrated in the book by a character who in the book is a mere secondary, ignoring perhaps the most interesting part of the story.
