Sitges 2014: Review of «Der Samurai» by Till Kleinert

Der samurai

«Der samurai»By Till Kleinert is one of those films that for better or for worse, you wait and wish to find yourself in en Sitges Festival.

A product that surprises and that is out of the ordinary. It may or may not be fine, but you know you are dealing with something different.

Nor will we say that Till kleinert He has discovered something new for us with this one, his debut feature, but "Der Samurai" is one of those films that is difficult to catalog and to which you cannot find another film to compare it to.

"Der Samurai" tells us the story of a policeman, a bad policeman as the filmmaker himself anticipated in its presentation, who while looking for a wolf that frightens his small town, comes across a greater danger , a transvestite samurai looking for revenge.

Such an argument might sound laughable, but the film is most serious. A queer slasher that keeps the viewer attentive during its scarce 80 minutes.

Una strange version of cinderella, which in this case, armed with a katana, seeks to seduce a timid protagonist who does not know what he is facing, bringing chaos to a small German community for one night.

A film visually very powerful and with a more than interesting script and direction.

Rating: 7 / 10
