Sitges 2014: Review of "The Voices" by Marjane Satrapi

The Voices

Marjane Satrapi meets her new film «The Voices«, A film that offers what can be expected of it, a good dose of humor.

Famous for her directing debut with Vincent Paronnaud adapting her own comic "Persepolis", the Iranian director on this occasion does not seek to give us a great message, but rather to make us have a good time.

"The Voices", a mix of slasher y romantic comedy that oddly enough it works perfectly, tells the story of Jerry, a worker from a sanitation company who lives with his dog Bosco and his cat Mr. Whiskers, who talk to him. Head over heels in love with a girl who works in the accounting department, Jerry is willing to make her fall in love but it all ends in bloody madness.

Great starring role of a Ryan Reynolds to which we had practically forgotten, which gives a sinister touch to our friendly and pleasant friend. Good job also from her co-stars Gemma ArtertonAnna Kendrickjackie weaver.

With no pretensions other than entertaining the staff and playing with the genres, Marjane Satrapi has brought us one of the most enjoyable works at the moment of this new edition of the Sitges Festival.

Rating: 7 / 10
