Shyamalan started filming Avatar: The Last Airbender

The new film from the director of M Night Shyamalan (Sexto Sentido) started this week the first filming tasks, to be taken in the American city of Philadelphia and cold Greenland.

La Paramount Studios mega-production is based on Nickelodeon's animated TV series of the same name, and according to sources close to the executive heads, it will have anot one of the highest budgets Shyamalan managed throughout his career.

The film tells the story of young Aang, the last Avatar capable of mastering the four elements (air, water, earth and fire), in a fantastic world that is going through a long and bloody war. Aang he will be reunited with his brothers Sokka and Katara, waterbenders, to try to regain balance and end the war.

As you might suppose, the project will demand a large amount of FX, department that will be in charge of the Argentine Paul Helmann, which will monitor one and each of the effects.

In the leading role we will see the debutant Noah Ringer, accompanied by Nicola Peltz, Jackson Rathbone and Dev Patel, who conquered the world press for his character in Slumdog Millionaire. The production will be from the marriage formed by Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy, expert couple in fantastic cinema, with more than 50 titles produced.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (not to be confused with the project carried out by James Cameron) will land in the cinemas of the United States on July 2, 2010, while in some other countries, the premiere will be a day before.
