Sam Mendes will not take the baton in the next installment of the Bond saga, a decision that he has taken to the detriment of the theater, an area in which he will focus his efforts, as it appears in the well-known British magazine “Empire Magazine”.
According to Mendes, "it has been a very difficult decision" and also wanted to emphasize that he wants to focus completely during this year (and beyond) on his commitments with the London theater where he has anticipated that he is preparing a version of Charlie and the factory of chocolate.
He has also not ruled out the possibility of returning to the 007 franchise in the future because Skyfall has been, in his own words, one of the best experiences he has had in his entire professional life.
He is currently absorbed into the theatrical production for London's West End and in addition to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he will also prepare a version of the Shakespearean classic "King Lear" for the National Theater. If he is as prolific in the theater as he is in the cinema, he will surely sweep the box office wherever he goes.
