Remembering… The Smoking Popes

The Smoking Popes

Let's remember a little the "need you around”, The theme of this XNUMXs North American band initially baptized simply as Popes, a name that is conveniently changed (also because there was already another homonymous group) due to the enormous amount of cigarettes that two of its members smoked.

The takeoff of this song and in general of the group, comes from the hand of the film Clueless (1995) that includes this title in the soundtrack, and that forces the band to release the corresponding single in triplicate in the mid-90s.

Before temporarily retiring in 1999, they shared the stage with artists like Green Day, Elastica: Morrissey, who ever talking about the album that includes this song, Born To Quit (Capitol, 1995), said "it's extraordinary… it's one of the most interesting productions I've heard in years".

They met again at the 2005 in an expected presentation that sold all the tickets in little more than thirty minutes, and currently they have just released a new album entitled Stay down that is already available in iTunes.
