Remembering ... Family

Family

The only and indispensable work of this group donostia throughout these years it has received qualifications such as “best national album of the decade","the one with the song that changed our lives","the most intense 37 minutes of my existence" or "the most important album for any sentimental pop lover”. In the opinion of many, these have fallen short.

In its gestation stage it is known that the protagonists, Javier Aramburu (voice, guitars, programming) e Inaki Gametxogoikoetxea (bass and schedules -of which little or nothing is said-), they were already involved in a project called The Insidia (together with the journalist Ricardo Aldarondo). Later as a duo, they would form The Young Lizard and they would go on to publish a demo - loaded with techno rhythms - under the production of Javier Fish (parafunk), in which the style they would follow could already be inferred and from which most of the themes would be taken for the upcoming production.

Nacho Canut y Alaska (that is to say, Fangoria) -who are pleasantly impressed by the music of this duet of San Sebastián- they would then invite them to open for them and in 1992, both groups come together to make a version 7 "of the song"the sign of the cross", original from Tenth Victim.
The relationship between Family y Fangoria gets closer and closer, to the point that it is in the Vulcano Studies (property of Nacho –Which later with the intronauts would do a version of the theme "the invented night"- and Alaska) where they would record their commendable work.

Inspired by the homonymous film by the French filmmaker louis malle, A blow at the heart (Elephant Records, 1993) began to germinate back in April, but it would not arrive until the end of the year and it would be nominated almost immediately as one of the best albums of those times (this album was reissued in the 2003 by the same record company on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of its departure, and the only difference with respect to the original is given by the format of its cover).

"We have tried to give the album as much unity as possible, that it was not a simple reunion of songs, and that the theme of love served as a common thread" Javier Aramburu.

A handful of fourteen elegant themes -simple, brief and concise- that from the depths of themselves try to tell us that happiness and sadness cannot be dissociated, and that make it a captivating journey - albeit a very short one - along the routes. of love and pain.
New Order, Smiths, Carlos Berlanga, silent constituents of the only work of Family that curiously by giving a few concerts, refusing to offer interviews and refusing to advertise in the media, he wrapped himself in an atmosphere full of mystery that has not been and will not be able to prevent it from being a mandatory reference for many groups that were born - or they were born again - from their exit to the world.
