Ramones Way, New York's tribute to the legendary punk group

Ramones Way Queens

The tributes continue for the 40th anniversary of the publication of the first Ramones album, this time in a big way since in a few days a street in the borough of Queens (New York) will be named Ramones Way, as of October 23.

The future Ramones Way intersects 67th Avenue and 100th Street in the borough of Queens (northeastern corner of New York), in front of the main entrance of Forest Hills High School. This was the school where Johnny, Joey, Dee Dee and Tommy Ramone, the original members of the group, attended. Karen Koslowitz, a member of the New York City Council, was the one who proposed this idea at the beginning of the year, which was approved by the rest of the council members last summer (boreal).

This was not the first tribute the Ramones have received in the Big Apple, as a 'Joey Ramone Place' sign was posted at the corner of Bowery and East 2003nd Street in Downtown Manhattan in 2. The famous punk club CBGB was located in this same place, where Los Ramones did their first live shows.

After its formation in 1974 and its recording debut in 1976, The Ramones managed to maintain a career of more than two decades that made them the North American referents of punk and one of the largest cult rock groups in the world. After the death in 2014 of drummer Tommy Ramone, none of the founding members of the group have been left. Before Tommy left the vocalist Joey Ramone (2001), the bassist Dee Dee Ramone (2002) and the guitarist Johnny Ramone (2004).

Last April, the Queens Museum opened an exhibit featuring Ramones memorabilia. This same exhibition with its expanded collection will move to the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles this month.
