Prince and Michael Jackson, similarities, differences, disagreements

Prince and Michael Jackson

Throughout the 80s to 90s, Prince was featured as Michael Jackson's great rival, in a competition between black music and the achievement of the title of "King of Pop." It is said that this competition served as an incentive for creativity between the two.

It is also true that it was two different styles, a slightly wilder and darker version by Jackson, and a more "glamorous" version by Prince.

Writer and filmmaker Nelson George went so far as to write that Prince reached a wider audience, to a greater diversity of tastes, and this did not like Michael Jackson at all.

Curiously both divos of black American music were born in the same year, 1958. The two rose to the top of the peak of stardom, at the peak of the music scene. Each held a different kingdom area. While Prince settled in Minnesota, in the northern United States, Michael Jackson had his main center of operations in Neverland, California.

They also agreed on his rise to fame. Prince got his first big hit with his work «1999». Just a few weeks later, Jackson would break records with «Thriller ». When they took the stage together in 1983 at a James Brown concert, they did their best to avoid each other.

Everything indicates that the prince of Minneapolis refused, on several occasions, to work with Jackson. In a charity initiative, together with other great stars of American music, to record the song "We are the world", which had been written by Jackson. Finally, he lent his voice to another song on the album.

It is also said that Prince rmade an offer from Jackson to participate in the famous video for "Bad", 1987. In 2004, Prince was the only one of the two to criticize the other in public, singing: "My voice goes higher and I never redid my nose, that's the other one", on his album "Musicology" .

It is also true that, despite this rivalry, Prince took his show, on stage, "Don't stop 'til you get enough.", one of Jackson's greatest hits.
