«Opening doors and windows», Best Film at the Mar del Plata Festival

Finished the 26 Mar del Plata International Film Festival, the only class A in Latin America, and the film that won the Astor de Oro prize awarded by the jury of the International Competition was «Open doors and windows", of Argentina Miracles Mumenthaler, who also took home the Best Director award. The film had also triumphed this year at the Locarno Film Festival, Switzerland.

Meanwhile, the Special Prize went to the film "Tyrannosaur", by Paddy Considine (United Kingdom, 2011); the Silver Astor Award for Best Screenplay also went to "Tyrannosaur"; the Best Actor was Olivier Gourmet, for his work in the film "L'Exercice de L'État" (France, 2011) and the Best Actress was Joslyn Jensen from "Without" (United States, 2011).

This year the festival generated widespread enthusiasm, which was reflected in the number of tickets sold, which in this edition reached almost 100.000 at the end of the meeting. For its part, adding to this number those attending free activities, such as open-air screenings, concerts, round tables, and book presentations, among others, some 120.000 people participated in the Festival, where a total of 230 films were screened in 600 functions.

Among the guests, there was the presence of the American actor Willem Dafoe, the North American filmmaker Joe Dante, creator of the «Gremlins», and Alex Cox, English director of the mythical "Sid and Nancy".
