Murder One: Metallica pays tribute to Lemmy Kilmister

Murder One Metallica

Metallica has revealed that their new track 'Murder One' has been inspired by Motörhead singer Lemmy Kilmister, who died on December 28, 2015.

Metallica members have long been Motörhead fans. In 1995, the performance in which they came out dressed up in Lemmy style was memorable for the British musician's 50th birthday, an event that was held at the Whiskey A Go Go Club in West Hollywood (California).

Lars Ulrich, a Metallica drummer and a recognized Motörhead fan since his teens, shared memories of that time: «In the summer of 1981 I continued the Motörhead tour. That experience was what made me want to play in a Heavy Metal band. Shortly after, when I got back to Southern California, I called James and told him that we should give ourselves a chance to form the band. Motörhead was undoubtedly our catalyst at the time ».

Included in the lyrics of 'Murder One' are several titles of the most famous Motörhead songs. In a recent interview for US radio Sirius XM, James Hetfield spoke about this link between the two groups: “Motörhead has done a lot for Metallica to be sitting here today. Lemmy has been like an entity, a father figure who helped us a lot throughout our career. He was never afraid, he was a character unto himself. We all respect him a lot. He always did what he wanted until the last minute of his life. No matter who you are, how could someone like that not be inspiring? "

The release of Metallica's new album, 'Hardwired… To Self Destruct' is scheduled for November 4, being this the first work of the Californian group since 'Death Magnetic' in 2008. The two singles that have been presented so far have been 'Hardwired' and 'Moth Into Flame'.
