The awards season has just ended with the gala of the Oscar and the first names are already beginning to sound for the next edition.
For this next race to the Academy Awards some of the heavyweights like Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg or Quentin Tarantino sound like.
Scott Cooper's "Black Mass"
Scott Cooper has already managed to cast one of his films at the 2010 Oscars, "Crazy Heart." For that film Jeff Bridges won the Oscar. Six years later, he could return to the gala with his new work "Black Mass", a film that stars a Johnny Depp who could aspire for the fourth time for the statuette for giving life to James 'Whitey' Bulger, a criminal who after leaving the Jail collaborates with the FBI to take down a common enemy.
John Crowley's "Brooklyn"
After passing through the prestigious Sundance Festival, John Crowley's "Brooklyn" is another of the tapes that is already playing for the next edition of the Hollywood Academy Awards. This Irish production stars Saoirse Ronan, one of the young promises of the moment and tells the story of Eilis who left Ireland in the 50s to emigrate to the United States, once there she falls in love with a boy and must decide whether to stay or return to your native country when a serious problem occurs in your family.
"Carol" by Todd Haynes
Todd Haynes' new job has already played for the recently concluded awards season, but finally "Carol" didn't arrive on time and will have to compete in next year's. Starring two-time Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, alongside Rooney Mara and Sarah Paulson, and set in the 50s, the film tells the story of a department store clerk who falls in love with an older married woman.
"Demolition" by Jean-Marc Vallée
After being present his last two films at the Oscars, "Dallas Buyers Club" three statuettes of six nominations, and "Wild" nominated for two awards, Jean-Marc Vallée could return to the gala for the third consecutive year with "Demolition". Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts, who this year have been on the verge of the nomination and the Oscar winner Chris Cooper star in this film that tells the drama of a young New York banker who tries to overcome the emotional disorder he suffers after the tragic death of his wife.
"Everest" by Baltasar Kormákur
The Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur, after some discreet films in the United States, could conquer Hollywood with his next film "Everest" with a cast of real luxury in which we can see stars such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes or Robin Wright. The film tells the story of two groups fighting to conquer the highest peak in the world.
"Genius" by Michael Grandage
Colin Firth, Jude Law, Nicole Kidman or Guy Pierce are some of the actors who could return to the Oscars with the film "Genius", which tells the story of Max Perkins, editor at Scribner, where he supervised works by Thomas Wolfe, Ernest Heminway, Scott Fitzgerald, and others.
