"The Hateful Eight ", Tarantino's new film opens in Spain on January 15. It has all the ingredients to be a blockbuster. In addition to Kurt Russell or Jennifer Jason Leigh, stars of international renown, the film has an ingredient of enormous musical quality: Ennio Morricone.
Professional collaboration between Tarantino and Morricone it's not from this movie. Previous Tarantino films had already featured the music of the best-known composer of the western genre.
The friendship and professional relationship of both artists has gone through different stages. On "Django unchained », Morricone's music served as the background for scenes of slave brutality. The Roman musician did not like this at all, and he assured that he would never work with the filmmaker again. But Tarantino has wanted peace to prevail between the two. The story of "The Hateful Eight" liked so much Maria, Morricone's wife, that she interceded to get the agreement.
Another element that the Italian musician liked a lot is the presence of snow in the movie. The reconciliation has been made public in London. And it took place in Studio Tres on Abbey Road. And it is not by chance. The soundtracks of two sagas were recorded in the same studio: Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings.
Morricone and Tarantino have known close old wounds, and they have been aware that the work was worth it. Composition details? Music meets nature with a mysterious halo. Snow brings peace, quiet, serenity. And the composer feared that the symbiosis with music would be a bit boring. It was, therefore, a matter of analyzing all the options that the script offered, as is the case of the horses galloping over the snowy landscapes. The film, and its soundtrack, address a new vision of defeat.
