Mel Gibson returned to Mexico, the country where he filmed the controversial Mayan epic "Apocalypto." The actor traveled to be present at a religious confirmation ceremony, led by Archbishop Emeritus Carlos Quintero Arce in a chapel in Hermosillo, the capital of the state of Sonora, in the northeast of the country.

"He is very religious, he likes Latin very much, he is highly educated in many things," Quintero explained, in? statements to the press; In addition, he added that the actor is very devoted to blessings and masses in Latin and that he has visited him at his home in Malibu (USA).

Gibson, who speaks Spanish, spent more than an hour at Quintero's home and then left without speaking to reporters waiting outside. The rite of confirmation is a sacrament by which a person already baptized is welcomed as an official member of the Catholic Church.

The actor is the star of the film series "Lethal Weapons," and his directorial credits include 2004's "The Passion of The Christ."
