'Lubna', Mönica Naranjo's seventh album, is out now

'Lubna', the considered "unclassifiable work" by Mónica Naranjo, offers us in rock opera mode the soundtrack of a book that will go on sale next September.

I admit it: I was one of those who doubted the final result of 'Lubna'. In addition, this was one more question that was discussed on the blog. The first contact with 'Jamás', the first preview we had of this new work by Mónica Naranjo, puzzled me to the fullest. A small part of a total story that, to top it all, came with such a load of drama that it completely caught me out of the game. The following previews, 'Fin' and 'Lost', also failed to show cohesion some, only drama and more drama.

But 'Lubna' fell into our hands last Friday and it only took a complete listening, calmly, paying the attention that a work like this needs to understand it. Suddenly everything made sense: every song, every piece of the puzzle fit perfectly. Then, to my surprise, came those turns in the production that I always demand so much, going from the most delicate lyrical to wild rock, going through flamenco and even the most desperate tango, getting with such a tremendous mix that you immerse yourself in history and suffer as if it were yours. It is impossible for me to count all the times I have come across spiky hair.

Produced entirely by Mónica Narano herself, Pepe Herrero and Chris Gordon, 'Lubna' is the soundtrack of the eponymous book that will be released next September. The book, written by Monica's friend, is a play designed to take her to the theater, something that this rock opera needs like water. Special and obligatory mention to the collaborations of Marina Heredia in 'Boomerang', one of the darkest songs on the album, and Jaime Heredia «The Parrón» in 'L´ombra'.
