Judas Priest is a British heavy metal group considered one of the most important and influential in the history of the genre. Founded in 1971 by KK Downing, Ian Hill, Al Atkins and John Ellis, they originally adopted the name Freight, but Atkins suggested the name Judas Priest, from his previous band, as he disliked it. They officially debuted in 1974, without Ellis and Atkins, who were replaced by John Hinch and Rob Halford respectively, and with Glenn Tipton as the new guitarist.
