"For nothing", the power of friendship

in exchange for nothing

In exchange for nothing It is one of those films that leave you feeling good, beyond having spent some time of entertainment. They don't make you think so much and they do force you to think about it.

Darío, a sixteen-year-old boy, enjoys life with Luismi, his neighbor and friend of the soul. They maintain an unconditional friendship, they have known each other since they were children and together they have discovered everything they know about life. After the separation of his parents, Darío runs away from home and begins to work in the workshop of Caralimpia, an old criminal with the air of a winner, who teaches him the trade and the benefits of life. Darío also meets Antonia, an old woman who collects abandoned furniture with her motorcycle cart. At his side he discovers another way of seeing life. Luismi, Caralimpia and Antonia become his new family during a summer that will change their lives.

The power of friendship, of giving for nothing. It is a concept that is embodied throughout the film. The fidelity of a child. Because let's not forget that Dario (Miguel Herran) it is actually a child who is very scared. Who escapes from a world that is crumbling, his world. And for this he escapes with what he is wearing, his integrity and what little he can save; friendship.

And there are also some characters that accompany him on that adventure. The first is your friend Luismi, a partner with whom he does everything. There is also Antonia, an older woman (grandmother of the director, Daniel Guzmán) that is endearing. And Caralimpia, who actually offers a friendship that shows the darker side of it.

One of the best things in the script is that tone with which topics that are actually very rugged are dealt with. A shitty life that you can get a lot of juice out of. Because we've all been those teenagers. And we all get into their shoes and experience the good of them, despite all the tragic things that happen to them. That's why I love that way in which the script has shown us the crudest in a very successful way and with a lot of tact.

In exchange for nothing shows from the essence of its elaboration a universal message. A pure story that has been given to us for nothing.
