From BAFICI (finished), review of "Love Exposure"

Who has seen, like me, «The Suicide Club'You can't even accept missing the last of a really' weird 'director's movies. Sono zion, a man who struck me with that (almost) mythical scene of massive suicide under the wheels of a train, has surprised me again, and more than very pleasantly, with «Love exposure«.

Four hours of film on a Saturday afternoon, with a much-needed ten-minute interval, turned out to be the most fluid and enjoyable, as well as intense, storytelling that I have seen so far. Handling with exquisite virtuosity all the characteristics most typical of the genres he walks through, he builds a story where time is not too great, where the characters are perfectly plausible in their emotional and rational journey. A film where the four hours are not at the service of a whim, but at the service of the story itself. Two teenagers, one pervert who falls in love with her, she reluctantly who hates him. The problem is that there are also religious conflicts, a Christian church and another that is an economic deception, the problem of faith, the truth of sins, original sin and generated pride. The adolescent innocence, the pain, the growth. Love and caprice, sex and voyeurism, karate and madness, and cross-dressing and sibling love, which already seems to be the only thing that really should happen.

The best way to portray a reality, as well as a most delusional fiction. An atrocious "bizarre", which ends as only this film could end, and one gets emotional. Excellent performances, a level of ethical and aesthetic professionalism more than applaudable. A very well cared for photography, many tributes to classic Japanese cinema (samurai cinema, for example), and an exquisite musicalization.

And not only this, but a constant bombardment of classic quotes resolved in the form of a visual metaphor, and an atrocious criticism of pre-established forms that, from the author's point of view, should change.

I really think that, among all that I have seen from BAFICI this year (and it is not much, unfortunately) this is the best. More than recommended. Here, the trailer.
