Actor / director Ethan Hawke has agreed to star in Lionsgate's futuristic, vampiric film Daybreakers.
Horror film veterans Australians Peter and Michel Spierig have written the script and will direct the project, which will begin filming in Australia in July.
The protagonist of Training Day will play an investigator in 2017 who seeks a solution to a plague that has transformed most of the population into vampires. As the extinction of the human race approaches, vampires must seek a substitute for blood or rescue as many humans as possible. But, a secret group of vampires finds a way to save the human race.
Although Lionsgate will distribute the film in the United States and the United Kingdom, the international sale is not yet closed and will take place at the Cannes Film Festival.
We will soon see Hawke in Richard Linklater's Fast food nation, which is premieres of 6 of July.
