"Don't breathe", in the basement of terror

Vimos "Infernal possession»Long ago, and became one of the references of the brilliant era of VHS. With her, Fede Álvarez demonstrated his ability to film horror. Now "Don't Breathe" comes along, and we all expect her to sit in our cinema seat, prepared to be startled, and be very afraid.

"Don't Breathe" is a good horror movie. One wonders if we will remember too much watching it from another of the great classics, "The basement of fear."

Fede Ávarez gives all his characters a human air, above the terrifying magical atmosphere provided by the big screen. The doubts and uncertainties of these characters are permanent. Álvarez uses the most disturbing image, together with an intelligent use of sound, to provoke in the viewer a mixture of different sensations.

The director has great skill in combining tricks to surprise the viewer, without falling into a succession of artificial effects. Just enough to attract attention.

There are horror movies where the first sequence is the director's signature. They are prologues that invite you to enter a house of terror and identify the author of the sequences. It is worth remembering the aerial shots of "The Shining", the introspective camera of "Infernal Possession" and the progressive approach movements of the opening of "Don't breathe."

The film is set in a terrifying Michigan city, where the screams seem not to be heard by anyone, and where the body of a woman can be dragged down the street without anyone noticing it.

Among the elements of authentic dread, the ferocious rottweiler who appears in the film is the protagonist of some of the best sequences of 'Don't breathe'. It seems that the dog created by Stephen King was honored. But there is more. The blind man who plays Stephen Lang, an ex-soldier who seems to be "beating around the bush" is a disturbing, disconcerting element.

An essential movie for all horror movie lovers.
