Between January 21 and 26, it will take place in Liverpool Respectacles Project, an exhibition that will be part of the commemorative events of National Holocaust Day (January 27).
Our eternal Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe, whose mother is Jewish, has had a nice gesture with this project and has decided to donate the first glasses she used at school, when she was 6 years old. The Mayor of Liverpool thanked and appreciated the actor's gesture, calling it "wonderful".
This exhibition, which has already collected around 1000 donated glasses, is inspired by a famous image from World War II in which the glasses of some of those who died in the Holocaust are piled up.
When the Soviet army liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau they found huge loot that had been stolen from the Jews who were murdered there. The loot included millions of items of clothing, tons of human hair, and also mountains of glasses.
"The glasses will be a symbolic piece of art that will help people learn how important it is to never forget the horrors of the Holocaust"
Mayor of Liverpool, Paul Clark
