OBK returns: «From the Heart»

Heart OBK

We start with the news and then I think that if not this ends up being a mess. Today, October 9, the advance of the new album by OBK, 'From Heart', a compilation based on personal versions of his own songs, some hits from his entire career and others that did not become singles but were also considered jewels by fans. The first single chosen by Jordi Sánchez for this 'De Corazón' was that heartbreaking ballad that closed his third album, 'Trilogía' (1995), entitled 'Otra Canción de Amor'.

As a proud fan of OBK since that B-side of 1991, 'Oculta Realidad', this third compilation -fourth if we count 'Extrapop'- seems to me a most risky maneuver considering how the Spanish music market is doing. But if we talk about risk then we must make a mention of how the new version of 'Another Song of Love' -Let's make it clear as always that this is a personal opinion-, since Jordi has wanted to give a touch so, so personal, that the song ends up sounding like a demo. He himself announced months ago that this would be OBK's least electronic album, but it was not until listening to this song that he understood how far he was going to go about it. "Less electronic".

Although that may have sounded like a destructive criticism, nothing is further from the truth, since the second advance that has been released has been the most epic to me. 'Never again', from his first album, 'Llámalo Sueño' (1991), achieves in this new interpretation, respecting all the basic, cold and great of the original -thanks, Jordi-, to be a successful step within that double-edged sword that are the versions. It will be next October 23 that this new work by OBK goes on sale: 'De Corazón'.
