American Idiot, from Green Day, to the theater

Both critics insisted on taking American Idiot like a punk-rock opera, which finally Billie Joe & Co.'s band will have their own musical, inspired by the hit album.

American Idiot was a worldwide sales success, with 13 million copies sold, and it marked a before and after in Green Day's career, musically and aesthetically. Now the theatrical version of the album will be directed by Michael Mayer, and will premiere next September at the Berkeley Repertory Theater. Mayer prepares the play by stopping at each of the songs, and bringing nearly a twenty singers, actors and dancers.

From what could be known, the musical will tell the life of a group of workers from the suburbs who travel to the big cities with the sole goal of progress and finding hope, a very similar story experienced by immigrants around the world.

Billie Joe himself collaborated on the script for the play, who worked side by side with Tony Drama Award winner Mayer.
