Pedro Almodóvar has stated that the VAT increase that will come into force is like "signing the death certificate" of culture. He did so in brief statements to the press after visiting the burning chapel of the musician Bernardo Bonezzi.
Even the former Minister of Culture, Ángeles González-Sinde, who came to fire Bonezzi, declared: “It seems to me a totally disproportionate measure and that it will mean a strong adjustment for the entire sector that is currently going through a serious crisis due to the change to digital support ”.
El VAT increase, which has already started to be applied, does not affect the entire cultural sector equally since cinema, live music, performing arts and works of art rise by 13 points, from 8 to 21%.
But on printed books the VAT remains at 4% and on tickets to museums, exhibitions, libraries or archives, it only rises two points, going from 8 to 10%. Do you think this is what could be called a chronicle of a death foretold?
