Everything indicates that the three-time Oscar winner Mery streep is in talks to join Emily Blunt y Lin Manuel Miranda in disney movie "Mary Poppins Returns".
If negotiations come to fruition, the film would reunite Streep with the team he worked with on 'Into the Woods' alongside director Blunt. Rob Marshall, and producers Marc Platt and John DeLuca.
This sequel to "Mary Poppins" would be lfor the third time that Streep and Blunt met on screen, since ten years ago they starred in 'The Devil Seen from Prada'.
It is envisaged that Streep to play Mary Poppins' cousin Topsy, a supporting role that was not in the 1964 classic. The actress would also sing in the film, as she did in 'Into the Woods', earning her her nineteenth Oscar nomination.
The script would correspond to David Magee, based on stories by PL Travers, and Marc Shaiman will compose the new songs alongside Scott Wittman. Set in the 30s and based on elements from all eight Mary Poppins books, the story will take place during the Great Depression in London (just when the original works were written).
Regarding its historical time, the sequel would be located years after the original plot. In it, the children Jane and Michael are already adults and they need help from the magical babysitter to help them overcome a loss and bring joy back to their lives. Through his magical abilities and with the help of his friend Jack, Poppins will try to help the family re-discover the joy that is now missing from their lives.
As we say Meryl Streep will play tops, Mary Poppins' cousin, who in the novel Mary Poppins Comes Back from Travers, he married and adopted the name Topsy Turvey. The premiere of the film would be scheduled for Christmas 2018.
