They have finally announced the reasons for the death of Heath Ledger officially.

According to a statement from the New York Forensic Institution, the 28-year-old Australian actor died of an accidental prescription drug overdose.

We quote below part of that statement:

"Mr. Ledger died of poisoning from the combined effects of oxycodone, hydrocodine, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine"

The drugs referred to, ending in zepan, are benzodiazepines that have a series of sedative, hypnotic and amnesic effects, as well as anticonvulsant and muscle relaxant, oxycodone is an opioid and doxylamine is an antihistamine with sedative action.

These medicines are indicated for a wide variety of disorders, such as anxiety, depression or insomnia among others. They are considered the most common drugs in drug-based poisonings that are generally accompanied by alcohol and other substances, however the level of mortality from this cause is not high.
