The well-known magazine dedicated to the world of entertainment, Entertainment Weekly, interviewed the director stephen sommers, in charge of bringing the cartoon franchise to the screen G.I. Joe. The film will be titled GI Joe: Rise of Cobra and will have as protagonists a cast headed by Dennis Quaid, Sienna Miller, Marlon Wayans and the veteran actor Jonathan Pryche.
In an exclusive interview, Sommers said that for the realization of his film he seeks to get away from the current stereotype of the American hero towards his characters in G.I. Joe. "Looking at it from a contemporary point of view, I was inspired to make GI Joe by memories of the kind of movies I used to watch when I was younger" said Summer.
“I always loved early Bond movies, but it's funny how today's James Bond now resembles Jason Bourne's. I realized that today's Bond movies are nothing like the Bond movies I grew up with. " he reflected Summer about the characteristics that action characters have today.
The filmmaker who directed Van Hellsing and The Mommy Returns revealed that the blockbuster will include an underwater scene, inspired by the battle of Thunderball, which will be 10 times higher than the one seen in that remembered film.
As far as is known, the story arc of GI Joe: Rise the Cobra will revolve around an elite military organization that must confront a terrorist group calling itself "Cobra Command".
GI Joe: Rise the Cobra, Has screenplay by Stuart Beattie and David Elliot and production of Say Bonaventura Pictures. It will hit theaters in the middle of the year, in the month of August.
