Metallica conquered Antarctica last Sunday

Metallica, one of the most successful and influential rock bands, performed for the first time in history a concert in Antarctica last Sunday (8), in a show entitled 'Freeze' Em All ' (Freeze them all). This event made them the first band in the world to play on all seven continents.

The unusual concert was organized and promoted by Coca Cola Zero and took place in the vicinity of the 'Base Argentina de Investigaciones Carlini'. It had a select group of 120 attendees, which included 20 scientists and officials from the different Antarctic bases, from Russia, Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany; as well as the nineteen winners of the contest 'Zero Music' selected in five Latin American countries.

James Hetfield (singer and guitarist), Lars Ulrich (drums), Kirk Hammett (guitarist) and Robert Trujillo (bassist) played for over an hour at a temperature of 12 degrees below zero, inside a transparent dome 12 meters in diameter and 6 meters high, specially assembled for the occasion. In turn, there were fourteen cameras that recorded the event, which was broadcast live via streaming, from the Coca Cola Zero website.

The concert was subject to a meticulous protocol on the environmental impact supervised by the National Antarctic Directorate (DNA) Argentina, and that involved the use of headphones (including musicians), in addition to the careful installation of more than 25 tons of equipment, including solar panels, to avoid any type of impact, in order to preserve and respect the environment of the Antarctic area.
