Manolo Tena leaves us

Manolo tena has passed away at 64 years of age, according to information from the SGAE and Efe. The singer was admitted to the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Madrid for liver cancer, diagnosed last December.

He lived with his wife and young daughter, and also had two other grown children. After seven years of silence, he returned to the stage with «Coincidences», a bestseller. His last best-known project was in the program «a mi modo», broadcast by La Sexta, along with other artists such as Marta Sánchez, David de María, Sole Giménez, Antonio Carmena, Nacho García Vega and Mikel Erentxun, where he recounted his bad stages vital to all viewers.

Their first known group dates back to 1977, with the group Cucharada. In 1983 it would be Alarma. Towards the year 1988 he started alone with the album «So rare». His career is characterized by the famous Madrid movida, in which Manolo stood out for his personality, his lyrics and his music.

Manolo Tena was the son of Extremadura settled in Madrid, and in his younger years he played different trades, such as bellboy, waiter, commercial, and even comedian. He began studies in Philology, but did not finish them. Self-taught with English and guitar, he wrote lyrics for artists such as Miguel Ríos, Los Secretos, Ana Belén, Luz Casal and Siniestro Total.

One of the great milestones of his career, "Spanish Blood" in 1992, sells more than half a million copies and catapults him to fame. Years later, he begins his descent into hell with the world of drugs, which makes him disappear from the scene.

He reappears in 2015 confessing having gone through different rehabilitation centers, one of them in Cuba itself, time that he dedicated to writing some of the songs for his new album. Among his plans for the immediate future was a new concert tour throughout Spain, which was entitled "Renacido".
