Juan Gabriel continues to generate profits

The so-called "Divo de Juárez" has broken records in the Latin music scene. It is said that in the last ten years it had a turnover of around 160 million dollars. But there is more. After his passing, abundant unpublished material is being discovered.

If Jesús López, an important director of Universal Music, is asked about Juan Gabriel's musical heritage, he answers:  "The greatest legacy that Juan Gabriel has left me is that I understand Mexico and I love Mexico because of him."

At the end of August, a collaborator of Jesús López approached him and told him what was important and novel news for him. "Juan Gabriel has died." López's response was immediate: “Have they killed him again? My God, how are journalists ”. The collaborator said that this time "it seems that he is serious." Once the news was confirmed, they say that López cried like a child. In his words: “I started crying. They are many years of friendship ”.

Jesús López has been for many years the editor of Juan Gabriel's music. On the divo, he assures that he has been the authentic reference of Latin music in the last 50 years. His prolific songwriting activity, with more than 1.800 songs, the number of concerts offered and his numbers on the radio, which exceed 200, elevate him to the altars of the Latin world.

Are counted more than 75 national venues full of concert goers. Although the total amount that this music star may have generated is not easy to calculate, the president of Universal Music in Latin America says that the money generated by the incessant activity of Juan Gabriel could well exceed the figure of 160 million dollars in ticket sales in the last 12 years.

Regarding the artist's legacy, López warns that there is much to hear from Juan Gabriel. “There is a lot of material. For example, we were working on volume three of the duets and many are already recorded. Some are with their voice but the other artist's is missing. Many things will still come out in the future. At his home in Cancun, he had the studio attached to his bed and he recorded a lot. It has a considerable unpublished archive to be edited in the next few years ”.
