The classic of all time The Wizard of Oz rides the wave of remakes that American cinema is going through. The news is that the already adolescent Dakota Fanning will star in the film directed by Todd McFarlane, creator of the dark comic book character Spawn.
McFarlane's idea is base the film's story on the Wizard of Oz line of doll-sculptures that his own company launched some time ago. The figures of McFarlane and co reinterpreted each character in that fantastic world, covering them with a dark aesthetic, much closer to horror movies than to the childish tone that we all remember.
On the role of Fanning, it is being said that It could give life to Dorothy's granddaughter, who would return to a world of Oz very different from that of her grandmother.
The Rodage would start at the beginning of next year, produced by Warner Studios. The assumption Premiere is scheduled for early 2011.
