Last April 16 marked the 120th anniversary of the birth of one of the great figures of world cinema: Charles Chaplin. And here we will make a small and modest tribute, as it well deserves.

Charles Spencer Chaplin was born on April 16, 1889, in London, England. By then his family was mired in poverty, and that origin marked him forever, so much so that it was a theme present in many of his films (perhaps the most remembered is the masterful Tiempos Modernos).

He spent much of his childhood on the street, just like Dickens characters, and that stage in his life was portrayed in The kid, from 1921. At some point, Chaplin would say: "My childhood ended at the age of seven".

His parents worked in the world of the music hall, and from there the young Charles was learning the steps of the show. His father died of alcoholism when he was a child and his mother, an actress, suffered from schizophrenia, forcing her to stay in a psychiatric institute. This caused Charles and his brother Sydney to grow up in an orphanage.

Fulfilled the age of majority, He started working for Fred Karno, a company famous for its comedic actors, that allowed him to tour Europe and the United States. There, the film producer Mack Sennett discovered and saw Chaplin's talent and he quickly hired him to make his film debut in 1914. Already in his second film, he could be seen with the outfit with which he is known throughout the world.

Chaplin went into exile, married four times, had eleven children and died in 1977 at the age of 88. being everything a myth of world cinema.
